Your Data and What We
Do With It

YOUR INFORMATION

Talkmatters will ask you for personal information before any counselling takes place. We will only ask you to provide information that is necessary to identify you and look after your wellbeing while you are with us.

WHAT WE DO
WITH YOUR INFORMATION

We will never share your information with any other agency or individual except where we are required to by law and we will always notify you if we are asked for
your information. Statistics and demographic information produced by us will never identify any client.

YOUR CHOICES

You may, if you wish, choose not to provide the information we need. Counselling will not be withheld for that reason and we will discuss how this may affect
our relationship with you, for example how we contact you if you do not provide an address.

YOUR RIGHTS

Your counsellor will record notes of your counselling sessions and we will keep these on a secure database as a normal part of your therapy. You have the right, at any time, to view any information we hold in relation to you. You also have the
right to ask us to remove your personal information from our files at any time.

OTHER THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

It is a professional requirement that your counsellor will discuss their casework with a qualified supervisor. The supervisor is bound by the same legal and ethical rules as your counsellor. After your therapy has ended, we will retain your records for a period of seven years, after which time they will be deleted. We do this so that we have them available should you return to counselling, and also for
evaluation and statistical purposes.

CONTACT US

If you have any questions regarding your personal information - how we record it,
store it, or share it - please talk to your counsellor or a member of staff in the Talkmatters office.

If you are not satisfied with the information you are given, or wish to discuss an issue further, you can contact the Service Manager:
